What is it?
Blown-in cellulose is a popular alternative to fiberglass insulation. Cellulose has almost twice the resistance to heat transfer as blown-in fiberglass with an R value of 3.8 per inch and won’t lose R-value (like fiberglass) on the coldest and hottest days – when you need it most. We use only Applegate® Brand stabilized cellulose – which means dust & settling is eliminated. Its loose but compacting nature creates a custom monolithic seal.

Cellulose insulation actually helps make homes safer by providing up to 50% better fire resistance than fiberglass. Applegate’s unique two stage process injects dry and liquid fire retardants to penetrate the cellulose fibers. From both a health and environmental perspective, cellulose is considered more ecologically sound than fiberglass which is classified as a carcinogen and contains formaldehyde.

Insulation is permanent, critical and invisible - hidden in your walls, floors and ceilings. The discomfort of a poorly insulated home is often wrongly blamed on furnace and air conditioning problems when the actual cause is the insulation or its installation. Remember, the lowest bid is not always your
best value - quality work takes time and
normally costs a little more.

Why Insulate & Ventilate?

Industry experts recommend an R-49 in the attic. That means that almost every home in Michigan is under-insulated and under-ventilated. We recommend cellulose because it is denser and more efficient than most other types of insulation. Save up to 40% on energy bills and enjoy a quieter
home too.

Ventilation is just as important as insulation. Its important to vent the moisture and heat from the attic to eliminate mold and mildew problems and to ensure long life for your shingles.

What Causes Ice Dams?
Ideally, the temperature inside the attic should be the same as the air outside. If its 0° outside, it should be 0° in the attic. When you don’t have enough insulation and/or ventilation - heat from inside your home escapes into the attic -

warming the underside of your shingles. As the water rolls down to the coldest part of the roof – the eave, it re-freezes – creating ice and icicles in the gutters and ice dams on the roof. The money you spend to heat your home is basically melting snow on your roof!
Removing damaging ice and ice dams is important to do, but only a quick fix. The long term solution is usually by adding ventilation and insulation in the attic. Please be advised that we do this kind of work as well.
